English
At St Joseph's, we ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop the essential skills that they need in Reading and Writing, not only through fun and creative English lessons but also through their work across the curriculum.
Teaching Reading and Writing
Reading and Writing from Reception all the way through to Year 6 is taught through the Pathways To Write, Pathways to Read and RWI schemes. We also use Pathways to Spell to support our children with their writing. Children are given mastery keys to focus on each half term, enabling them to become very fluent in their use of these skills.
In addition to the work children complete through RWI and Pathways, we also love to carry out writing projects across school to support children to apply the skills they have learnt and to promote a love of writing. These are carried out each half term- our most recent project was based around the theme 'Remembrance'.
Dyslexia Friendly Status
As a school, we are committed to supporting all children to succeed and are delighted to have achieved Dyslexia Friendly Status. Here are the links to our Dyslexia Parent Workshop and to the BDA website which provides lots of information to about how to suppport your child.
